I chose the topic of Marilyn Monroe because she is one of my inspirations. I admire her talent and contribution towards girls worldwide. Her legacy seems to live on forever. I adore her photographs, music and acting. Photographer is a big part of my life which I can relate to and compare with her pictures. She is published in many magazines that are used through the media during this generation which keeps her image up to date.
I conducted my research mostly through the school database and Google. I got most of the information about her life through jstor and got most of the pictures through Google images. I also used a book to research more on her past family to understand her mindset on why she did certain things.
I selected my presentation category because I did a website last year and found it to be the easiest out of all 4 choices. It seems to be presented a lot neater and easy to read compared to the exhibit. Websites are easier to add sources and videos to show a more visual understanding of Marilyn's life. I also find it more interesting to use digital art rather than art with cutting and drawing. We all decided that the website was the easiest way to all contribute to the project and to get all our work done quickly.
My project relates to the nhd theme of Leadership and Legacy because Marilyn Monroe is a great example of a woman who change the world view. She's an inspiration to women today even when she is deceased. Her talents and experiences illustrate a successful lifestyle and a strong feminist view. She is just as popular today than she was during her time alive. Many stores and shops have used her image as a theme that appeals to many women. For example , there are many nail salons with her pictures surrounding the walls.

The topic of Marilyn Monroe was chosen by my group and I because Brooke brought up the idea when we were going through possible topics. We wanted to pick someone who not only left a legacy on the world, but who was also interesting to research. Marilyn Monroe definitely met these requirements when choosing our topic.
To conduct my research I separately looked up different websites and videos all involving Marilyn’s early life and her hard journey to fame. I mainly used different websites to find my information. I also used Brooke’s book all about Marilyn Monroe to find more information about many of her relationships. When we had to hand in our copies of our annotated bibliographies I completed most of my research. I found it difficult to find original newspaper articles of about Marilyn online since many of them were not available view. The main ones I was able to find pertained to her death and the famous question of how she died.
I chose to do a website because I did one last year and enjoyed doing it since it was very easy and convenient. This was because members in our group were able to work on it as well as add to it when we weren’t together. This really helped my group last year and this year to complete our project fast and efficiently.
My project about Marilyn Monroe relates to the theme because she completely embodies the theme of leadership and legacy. She proved to women as well as men how women were independent and self sufficient enough to be leaders during the time period she lived in. It is also evident she left a major legacy on the world since she is still talked about and viewed as a role model by people today.

My partners and I chose the topic of Marilyn Monroe for this years National History Day theme, Leadership and Legacy. We chose Marilyn because she lived an alternative lifestyle than most women and lead them to break free of the norm. She encouraged women to stray from the ideal life of a woman during that time. Today she continues her legacy as a sex symbol. Brooke suggested Marilyn Monroe for our topic and at first I questioned if he was even a leader but as soon as i began researching I realized that yes, indeed she was a leader. We all felt personally engaged because she is an inspiration to all of us.
As I began to conduct my research, I used the Hauppauge library virtual reference collection and used various biographies to gather information on her lifestyle. Marilyn Monroe was a model, an actress and a singer that many people aspired to be like. For my primary sources, I found many newspaper articles and a couple of journal entries. Secondary sources were the multiple biographies we found. We also used a book, Marilyn Monroe. This book was very resourceful and gave us many ideas of how she lived her life, how she was viewed and the effects she had on other people.
To put together all the research we found, we used weebly to make a website. Last year I made a website and found it easy to organize the information I gathered and helped get my point across. Our website consists of a home tab, a career page with three tabs- modeling, singing and acting, and a relationships tab. Our information was well organized by the pages we created which thoroughly covered Marilyn's lifestyle and the affect it had on other woman. Our website demonstrates how Marilyn Monroe was a leader and shows her legacy that is still inspiring many artists today.
Our project relates to the theme Leadership and Legacy because Marilyn Monroe was a leader and created a legacy for herself. She automatically became a leader when she lived her life the way she wanted to live it. Marilyn was different than the other woman of this time because she wasn't the "ideal" housewife. She challenged the norm and lived without regrets. Marilyn clearly created a legacy for herself because today she is still idolized and talked about widely. Although she is most known for being a "sex symbol" she is much more than that. In my opinion, she helped women gain rights by leading a different lifestyle and not listening to what people said about her.
